these movies. OK, it would, but I’d laugh a lot less. They certainly aren’t the point of Christmas, but they add a ton o’ fun.

Chevy Chase at his finest…we have friends who get together for Christmas Vacation parties, play the movie, turn off the sound, and all take a speaking part as it plays.

One of the all time best movies ever. We know every line, our parents know every line, our children know every line. Much of our life is sorted out through the lessons of Ralph and his Red Rider BB Gun.

Saw once and became an immediate every year must-see. “You smell like beef and cheese”.

Don’t tell me it’s over done, don’t mention it’s getting tired. I don’t care if you’ve seen it a gagillion times. This is a classic that I can’t get over. I still get weepy when they all come to help George in the end, and Harry flies in with a big check from Sam…

This is one perfect Christmas movie…and Linus going into the baby Jesus birth story is one of my favorite readings. And, we’ve had a tree or two like the one Charlie Brown picks out.

While not technically a Christmas movie, this is one that covers two significant Christmases for Harry, and Sally. And ends with the big New Year’s Eve scene, when he realized his life has to start now. And, this is the movie I watched during Christmas break finals, as a naive college junior, with the boy that became my husband. Aaawww. So it’s Christmas to us.

What can I say? Forget Jim Carrey…this is the real Grinch movie, and I love it. Maybe it’s always reminded me of myself.

Growing up in the 70s has inevitably left me with fondness and nostalgia over claymation. Although a pretty weak movie, it gives me warm fuzzies. Makes me remember my Mom decorating our house, every year. And great smells coming from the kitchen. And sawdust and hammering, but that’s another story.

“Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus”. I just like that one extremely cynical little girl gets turned around. Again, maybe reminds me of someone? We don’t even do Santa around here, but this movie makes me smile.

This one, released last year, is not my favorite. But it is pretty good and mostly family friendly (our youngest being 4 at the time). There are a few good laughs, and a great shot of Jamie Lee Curtis, not in her youthful prime, in a bikini. That, my friends, is good for the ego. We all age.

So there, my definitive list. I left out, much to my husband’s chagrin, Ernest Saves Christmas. That is NOT on my list.

I don’t whip up whatever my children want to eat whenever they want it. You wouldn’t know from the little exchange I just had.

Blue Boy: Momma?
Me: Yep?
Blue Boy: I know what I want for lunch.
Me: Okeedoke.
Blue Boy: I wa-a-a-n-t Cheerios, graham crackers and butter.
