Almost Thirteen Places We’ve Lived

1. Dallas, TX a 525 sq. foot apartment off the North Dallas Tollway, at Franklin Rd. 1992-1995

2. Smyrna, GA my folks home while we looked for a place of our own, December to February, 1995

3. Smyrna, GA our own rental, 1940s bungalow about 2 miles from where I had gone to highschool. First 2 babies born there, 1995-1998

4. Nashville, TN a 1920s rental near downtown, spring 1998-spring 1999

5. Nashville, TN our own home, first buy, 1920 Arts and Crafts stone bungalow in a neighborhood called Sylvan Park, one mile from our rental, May 1999-January 2000

6. Decatur, GA a rental on N. Decatur Rd., where we discovered our 3rd baby was on the way, January 2000-March 2000

7. Pine Lake, GA our own home where our 3rd was born, March 2000-December 2000. The one we still owe on.

8. Franklin, TN a small rental a couple of miles from downtown, December 2000-January 2003

9. Spring Hill, TN a larger rental about 15 miles from downtown Franklin, January 2003-October 2003

10. Greenville, SC a tiny rental, about 1100 sq. feet for all 5 of us, downtown, October 2003-October 2004

11. Greenville, SC our own home, about 6 miles from the rental. A 1950s 2 story traditional, currently in the middle of a kitchen remodel, mudroom addition, fireplace and built-ins overhaul, and hopefully screen porch add-on. And, it’s the first home we’ve owned, and lived in for an entire year.

Get it? What Sup? Like Wassup? It’s What’s For Dinner Wenesday? Too smart, eh? Why did I say ‘eh’, I’m not Canadian. On to the point. I’m way off track here.

I’m wishing for, but not cooking, my Mamma’s Famous Cheese Grits. OK Yanks, they are superb. Really. You’ve never had grits until you have some smothered with butter and Velveeta, and baked til golden brown. I’m telling yall. Yum.

So, since they are made as described above, they are not on a plan for losing a few pounds. But if one should choose to try them, write and let me live vicariously. They are great with ham biscuits (sorry veggies), or anything breakfast-y. Also, we had them with grilled salmon and salad one night. Tres yum.

Mamma’s Famous Cheese Grits

6 C. boiling water and
1.5 C. grits, stone ground or Quaker Quick
bring these to a slow boil, stirring so they don’ t stick, and when they thicken, add
1.5 sticks of butter or margarine
1 pound Velveeta cheese, or other processed cheese food
and allow to cool a bit, then
fold in 3 beaten eggs with
1 t. salt, 3 t. Season Salt and several drops of tobasco, to taste.

To finish off, bake in a buttered 9x13 casserole, at 350 for 1 hour, or till golden and bubbly.
Trust me. To die for.

In other news, Speedreader is mad at me, and we’re locking horns. Aaaah. To be 10. Not tres fun.

Got some sidebar silliness happening down lower on the home page…teeny eeny type size, and I’m not having success in straightening it out…I’ll have to wait for my Techno Wizard to get home from work today. Sorry for the mess down there. I’m sure it’s putting a serious crimp in your day. We’ll get through this, together.

On the upside, it is TV Free Tuesday, hosted by cool beans. Turn off the tube, and tell us this evening what you did all day, and if you indeed, start drinking by 2 pm. Not that I’d ever consider that myself. Just saying.

And, my scales are my best friend again this morning. They gave me back the two pounds I’ver worked so hard (don’t watch…my nose is growing) to lose in the last nearly 3 weeks. I think I’m going to publish a book, maybe just an eBook, based on a commenter that left me a brilliant suggestion. Wine Your Way to Thin. I’ll write her into the credits. I don’t want to give away any secrets, but just suffice it to say that it has something to do with eating only 400 calories all day, till, say, 5 pm, and then drinking the rest of them till, say, oh, 8 pm. You know, it’s not good to consume calories after 8. You don’t want all that sitting in your stomach all night, just ganging up on your thighs. If you like, between 5 and 8, you may also have something like a stick of celery, and some of that Laughing Cow, lite, cheese. But not more than maybe, 100 calories worth. Want to stay under 1500 for the day. And if you feel really ambitious, you can get in a day or two of cardio, or weights, but not more than 5 times in 3 weeks. But that’s all I’m going to say. I want the rest to be a surprise when the book is released.

Finally. Our Marker Art Boy, in all his glorious splendor:

I swear. I. do. not. stage. these. shots. I’m only here to grab them as they happen.

Happy Tuesday, all. Be sure to tune in later. I’m working on sheer brilliance up here in my noggin. No. Don’t thank me. Really. No. Hold your applause. I’d be nothing without you. You are the wind beneath my wings. Until then, adieu.

…o-o-o-h, o-o-o-h…wish it were Sunday, o-o-o-h, o-o-o-h…

First. My stupid scales say I’m back up that presumably lost 2 pounds. Damn cream cheese-salsa dip. And damn the Fritos Scoops. They were my only splurge all weekend. Besides the wine. And it’s just wrong to damn wine. Maybe I’m retaining water.

Second…it’s time to play Monday Memories! So without further ado…I present (drumroll)…something I remember!!!

Monday Memories

You know what I remember? I remember when I could come home from school and drink about 24 ounces of real Coke. And eat half a box of Cheez-its. And order a small Dominoe’s pizza. Eat the whole thing. Do a little homework after watching back to back M*A*S*H* re-runs sitting in my favorite arm chair. Have supper with my family. And eat 2 or 3 helpings of Momma’s fried chicken, rice and gravy. And. weigh. 100. pounds. That, my friends, is my memory for the day. Sadly self absorbed, but that’s it.

It’s Monday Memories over at R2Ks (she graciously says I co-host, but really, I just tag along).

I feel a bit surly this morning. Just found out we’re out of coffee. Have quite a bit of housework to do (it. never. stops.). Am behind in laundry (it. never. stops. more.). AND. I weighed. That blasted scales says I’ve gained a pound. Not happy. Not happy about that at all. And what kind of person am I that lets some scales dictate the start-of-the-day-mood? How shallow can I be? Oh, apparently pretty shallow. I DID post a pic of myself to solicit opinions from the internet on MY HAIR. Gack.

So…my memory. Got it. Yesterday (yesterday is not the memory, just when it was jogged to the surface of my empty head), so yesterday, Speedreader went to the roller rink (why. do. kids. like. gross. places. for. parties.?) and I helped him lace up his skates. You know, I said. Yes, I do know Mom. Know what? You don’t even know what I was going to say. How can you *know*? You used to go skating when you were my age, {with slightly bored exasperation he replies}. Well, Mr. Know All In The Universe. Yes, I did, but that’s not what I was going to say. I was going to say, if you were cool, you would NOT stoop to renting skates. That was bad mojo. You owned your own, and you brought them in a cool bag, or slung casually over your shoulder. You would never put your holy skating feet in those nasty rentals. It just wasn’t done. {entertaining me, he asks} OK, mom, so what’d you do…Well, since you asked…I had my very own pair and they were AWESOME. They were gold glitter! I rocked! Let me tell YOU how your momma looked zipping around in the backwards skate…

All he could do was hang his head in embarrassment for me. He was simply agog that I would ever don something as ridiculous as gold glitter roller skates. I’m telling you, they were sweet. Whadda kids today know, anyway. And why hasn’t someone kept a better picture of my kind of skates? They’re a classic. All I could find was this blurry shot, but the memory was so warm, I had to go with it. Groovy, baby, groovy.

Thankful Thurday: What allison is thankful for this week

1. For coffee. Yep, coffee.
2. And my hubby. Really. Even if it’s cheezy. Let it be.
3. We’re remodeling the kitchen. Aaahhh. It’s going to rock. Eventually.
4. For the new oven we’ll get. Mine likes to turn itself off at will. Difficult to count on cooking anything that way.
5. For caller ID. If I don’t want to talk to you, I won’t. But of course, if it’s you, I’ll pick it up.
6. Hot showers. I could stay in there all day. It’s about the only place that drowns the din of the children.
7. That I can stay home and blog raise and teach the children.
8. That when I weighed today, I had lost one pound. Oh ye-ah, oh ye-ah.
9. For more coffee (I’m getting a second cup).
10. And for Fat Free International Delight French Vanilla.
11. Children who sleep in. Aahhhh.
12. The little white Christmas lights we left up in the house. I love those.
13. And, for the straightened out desk I reorganized yesterday. Much better. Makes me feel much more productive.

Thirteen Things about allison

Today, I feel theme-y…I think I’ll go with, ummm, highschool.

1. Well, I hated it, for one. Class of ‘88.
2. But I really wanted to get into our Who’s Who (that vanity, again).
3. So I joined the newspaper.
4. And the student council.
5. And I cheered one year. Big Gack.
6. Let’s see…Beta Club.
7. National Honor’s Society. Not hard in Smyrna, Ga.
8.Which by the way, is where Julia Roberts grew up, and yes, we were in the same highschool, actually at the same time. Yeah. Go ahead. Touch me if you want.
9. It’s funny, I’m thinking hard. I’ve block a lot out. Oh, I never was on the homecoming court, but secretly, desperately wanted to be. Sad. I know.
10. And OH! My first ever heart breaking crush happened my freshman year. Russell Reid. Oh. My. G*d. Loved him, loved him, loved him. He asked my best friend to go with him. Thought. I. would. die. Up until 14, I had never felt such pain. In. my. life. Ever. Wonder how he’s doing now?
11. I totalled my car twice within 9 months. It was a Fiat Spider. Convertible. Red. I was so hot. But, sadly, only I knew it. Darn.
12. Dated a bad boy for a few months. He was bad. We got arrested. Story for another time. But, I’ll just say now, as I was a juvi, my court record is now sealed.
13. And, I was so glad to finally get out of highschool, I’ve never been back for one reunion, or kept up with more than 2 people. And it’s been at least 2 years since I’ve talked to them. I’m getting nervous just making this list. {{{shudder}}}
